Serving in Ilheus - a coastal city south of Salvador

May 9, 2010

Note from Denise/Mom: We had a wonderful phone visit with Kevin on Sunday for Mother's Day. He sounds great....and I am continually amazed at how much his voice sounds like my father's!!! Kevin says that his language is getting so much better. He can remember when he could not understand anything.....and feels he has "come a long way". He is greatly for his American companions and is ready for another Brazilian companion who will challenge his abilities even further. Regarding the upcoming transfers, he said "he was ready for something new, but he will miss the people". Kevin has been in Conquista ever since he left the CTM the end of October!

I have had a major shake up in the mission.  I was transferred to Ilheus, which is on the coast south of Salvador next to Itabuna.  It is hottttt here. ugh im gonna die, haha. nah just sweat even more.  (Ilheus is) a decent sized city, smaller then Conquista i believe. its right on the coast so i may finally get to see a brazil beach, maybe. it took 6 hours by bus to get there, freak it was boring, haha but now im here. its hilly, more green, ive only been here for a few hours so thats all i can tell ya haha.  i have a new companion, he is brazilian and he has only 3 months on his mission.  i think i am his second companion, ``mom`` in mission terms. haha its going to be interesting finally being senior.  it scares the poop out of me, but i think im somewhat ready.  So we will work hard and see how it goes.  I live in a house about the same size as the old one, just i have 4 missionaries in it instead of only 2.  its kinda cramped, but its a new adventure.  i did accidently forget my pillow though - so i had to buy a new one today, i took out a bit of money first for the bus ticket (in case i needed extra) then used the card to buy the pillow, so thats why u will see two uses of it today.

well, i guess that about raps it up so far, since ures was short, that makes mine short too.

(Our emails were short due to the Sunday phone call! I guess I still need to ask more questions in order to get more information!!!! ;o) Check out what Wikipedia says about Ilheus. Don't worry....there are specific rules about going to the beaches!!!)
